Years ago, if you had asked me what it took to be an active magickal practitioner, I would have said that it required an intricate regimen of spells, weekend rituals, and elaborate offering ceremonies. Had you suggested incorporating “everyday” magick, I’d probably have turned up my nose, complaining it wasn’t “real” enough.

How wrong I was! Now, I know that being an active practitioner doesn’t hinge on formal spells and rituals but on beliefs. We all have different paths, and sometimes just believing in magick is enough.

For those of us who long to weave more active practices into daily life, the beauty of everyday magick lies in simplicity. Why let your magickal tools collect dust in the cabinet when you can wield them daily? By subtly infusing everyday actions with magickal intent, you gain confidence, practice, and a dash of fun, too. So, let’s dive into some simple ways to stir magick into your everyday routines.

What Is Everyday Magick?

Everyday magick is the practice of turning routine actions into rituals with focused intent, adding magickal energy to mundane tasks to make them extraordinary. By adding these simple practices into your life, you can support your wellbeing, alleviate burdens, and improve your quality of life. Any part of your day—from brushing your teeth to cooking dinner—can be enchanted if you approach it with the right mindset.

Stirring Magick into Liquids

One of the simplest ways (and one of my go-tos) to enchant your day is to stir intention into your morning coffee, tea, or any other beverage. All you need is a spoon or your right index finger.

  1. Visualization: Begin by imagining the effect you desire. For instance, stir bravery and boldness into your morning brew or peace and calmness if you’re looking to reduce anxiety. This visualization is crucial, as it shapes the energy you will infuse into the liquid.
  2. Stirring: Stir clockwise to bring things in or counterclockwise to remove something, such as negativity or anxiety. As you stir, vividly imagine your desired energy swirling into the liquid like cream mixing with coffee.
  3. Completion: When you feel the spell is complete (typically after nine stirs), seal it with a phrase like “so mote it be,” snap your fingers, or clap your hands. Any sealing gesture that resonates with you will work.
  4. Consumption: Drink the liquid or set it aside to let its ambient effects spread into the room. If you’re sharing the beverage with others, silently bless it to share your magickal intentions.

Exhaling Energies

Breathwork is another powerful, yet subtle, way to cast spells in daily life. With each breath, you can either release negative energy or spread positive vibes.

  1. Inhale Deeply: Focus on the energy inside you. Is it negative energy that you need to let go of, or is it beautiful energy that you want to share?
  2. Preparation: Inhale deeply again, pulling all that energy into your lungs. As you breathe in, visualize the energy being drawn from your entire body.
  3. Exhale Purposefully: As you exhale, imagine releasing the energy. For negativity, wish that the winds neutralize and purify it. If it’s positive energy, let it spread to those around you.
  4. Repeat: Inhale and exhale until you feel balanced. If negativity persists, consider moving to an open space where natural elements like wind can help dissipate the energy.

For a little extra kick when releasing negative energy, exhale through pursed lips, like you’re whistling or sighing. This creates a more forceful release.

Talking and Singing

Once you’ve mastered simple exhalation, incorporate vocalizations. When talking, use words imbued with positivity to uplift the energy of the space. Singing also works, as your voice naturally carries vibrations that can harmonize a room’s energy.

Applying Substances to Your Body

Magick doesn’t have to be a grandiose affair. Simply applying lotions, soap, or makeup with focused intent can cleanse or empower you.

  1. Visualization: Visualize your desired outcome as you hold the substance. Maybe it’s glowing skin, or an aura of confidence. Your belief in the product’s magickal power will influence its effect.
  2. Application: Rub in circles to either bring something in (clockwise) or take it away (counterclockwise). If you’re spritzing perfume or applying eyeliner, just keep your intent in mind. As you apply it to your body, let your imagination anchor the energy.
  3. Completion: Seal the spell with your closing phrase or action. If rinsing is required, do so afterward.

This practice applies to any substance you put on your body, such as hair products, makeup, soap, perfume, or cologne.

Quick Object Enchantments

You can also enchant everyday objects for a temporary boost of magick.

  1. Hold and Visualize: Hold the object and focus on what you want it to do. For instance, if it’s your glasses, enchant them to help you see lies.
  2. Channel Energy: Visualize energy moving from your core and through your hands into the object.
  3. Belief: Firmly believe that the object is now enchanted with your desired magickal effect. Conviction is crucial here.
  4. Seal and Use: Seal the spell and then wear or use the object as normal. The enchantment should last a couple of hours.

Expanding Your Practice

There are many other opportunities to weave magick into your daily routines:

  1. Blessing Your Food: Before eating, visualize blessings entering your meal, whether it’s for nourishment, healing, or clarity. Envision the food glowing with your intentions.
  2. Infusing Your Wardrobe: When dressing, set an intention for how you’d like to feel. Each article of clothing can be imbued with specific energy, like confidence or calm.
  3. Bathing Rituals: Treat your bath as a cleansing ritual by adding herbs, oils, or salts aligned with your purpose. Let the water wash away negativity and fill you with peace.
  4. Washing Dishes: As you clean your dishes, imagine scrubbing away worries and doubts, leaving your mind refreshed and purified.

Magick isn’t reserved solely for grand rituals and formal ceremonies. By blending everyday actions with intention, we can empower ourselves, heal others, and infuse a little extra sparkle into life. The key is consistent practice and a willingness to explore the magick in even the smallest tasks.
